Holistic Therapy at Enlightenment Recovery

What is Holistic Therapy?
How Can It Help You?

We have faith in Holistic therapy and have seen it work with the people we help. We believe it will assist you in grasping awareness of how your mind functions while identifying and increasing your ability to stop unhealthy behaviors.

Addiction and mental health issues have often been conquered by holistic options.
Holistic therapy approaches are virtually limitless and include just a few of the
mindfulness and awareness practices we use in Santa Cruz that include:

  1. Spiritual Guidance
  2. Mindfulness Meditation
  3. Nutrition
  4. Motivational Therapy

Holistic therapy does not gain the acknowledgement it deserves in Science, despite the documented success and positive results it has produced for millions of people in need of effective recovery programs. Holistic therapy will also help you understand that you are a person afflicted by addiction and help you avoid cross-addiction (substituting one addiction for another).

1. Spiritual Guidance

Holistic therapy has a fundamental basis in spirituality. As you develop and strengthen your spiritual being you will also develop your own personal and worldly awareness as well as your spiritual connection to the human community. “In our community, the soul is greater than the sum of our parts.”

2. Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is unique in that it is not directed toward getting us to be different from how we already are. Instead, it helps us become aware of what is already true moment by moment. We could say that it teaches us how to be unconditionally present; that is, it helps us be present with whatever is happening, no matter what it is.

Meditation is food for the soul and we will offer you mindfulness guided meditation on a daily basis to heighten your mental clarity and increase your stress threshold. We will work with you to manage your emotional intelligence and tolerance. Exercising your mind via meditation will vastly improve your ability to mitigate triggers.

3. Nutrition

People under the influence of drugs or alcohol probably do not have a healthy diet and are not eating foods based on their nutritional value.  Having a balanced diet, which includes eating vegetables and cutting out greasy or fatty foods is hard for everyone – even those who are not experiencing drug addiction and substance abuse issues.

Eating natural super-foods (we advocate avocados), plus  other foods rich in vitamins, will start to make your body and mind healthier and will lead you to begin valuing yourself and treating your body with respect.

Once you allow your mind to become aware of and appreciate your nutritional needs, you can start to focus on behaviors and treatments that will assist your “whole” healing and help prevent a relapse.  One of the focuses of your personalized therapy program at Enlightenment Recovery of Santa Cruz will be working with you to develop a good diet, exercise program, ways to get a good night’s sleep and address your health concerns.

4. Motivational Therapy

Motivational interviewing will be used for your benefit and treatment.  On a weekly basis, we will have Motivational Interviewing sessions with the goal of:

  • Assessing the way you perceive your addiction issue.
  • Examining your needs for continued treatment.
  • Expanding your perceptions for the possibilities of successful change
  • Developing your therapeutic relationships
  • Determining and enhancing your personal goals
